  1. 25 Days of TJs (except for reunions)

    May 18, 2012 by Rosalie

I am obsessed with Trader Joe’s. We both came from Pasadena. We both enjoy wine. We both enjoy beer. We both enjoy Quinoa. We both enjoy Kale. We both enjoy Mochi Ice Cream.

To read more about my obsession, check out my Buzz Bin Post.

So I thought it would be fun to do an experiment. I am going to eat nothing but Trader Joe’s for 25 days (except for reunions), and when I’m in need of water.

I will start this endeavor on Tuesday, May 22th (we have an office lunch planned on Monday).

I will take off the weekend of June 2-3, because of reunions at UVA. I made up the rules, so therefore that works. I’ll end June 15th.

My objectives are three fold -

1 – To show my love of Trader Joe’s by eating it for 25 days

    2 – To lose weight, because I think that’s inevitable… and ideal!

3 – To save money, because I think that’s also inevitable

I’m going to spend $40 on groceries each week, which means I will be eating for $4.70 per day. Not bad… not bad at all.

I will take pictures and update here. Stay tuned and let the games begin!

  2. Fillmore stop: dona rosa

    April 15, 2012 by Rosalie

    We went to dona rosa.

Emoly’smarg was syrupy. Mine was frozen with mango and good.

    Chips and guac were good.

    No pic. I suck.

  3. Del Mar: Congregation Ale House

    April 15, 2012 by Rosalie

So, when one stops at Del Mar, the immediate thought is La Grande Orange. But, having been there already this week, ESquared and I decided congregation ale house would be an excellent alternative. Off we went. One blackthorn cider. One delicious white ale from michigan, and we  were happy as clams. Add a pretzel and the oft quote emeril would say, BAM!

  4. Memorial Park: Quadrangle

    April 15, 2012 by Rosalie

So, this is the old town stop. We hit up Quadruple, an adorable French Brasserie that i had never been to before!

Esquared enjoyed a Apple beer that literally tasted like juice (apparently a theme with her, and I had a duvel #nom.
    A successful stop!

  5. Lake stop: Conrad’s

    April 15, 2012 by Rosalie

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve driven by Conrad’s, but I’ve never been inside.

    image

Well that changed on the third stop on our Taste of Pasadena metro tour. I mean, when you put “cocktails” on your sign, we know we’re good to go.

And then.. A 6.50 Maker’s Manhattan? E squared had a vodka soda, and we were out of there for 11.75.

Those are 90s prices or something. I can’t remember the last time I had a cocktail in LA for less than 10 dollars.

In short: Conrad’s for the win.

  7. Panda Inn. The Beginning

    April 15, 2012 by Rosalie

    Sierra Madre Villa, Stop 1:

We begin our journey at the Panda Inn. Potstickers and Kirin, the perfect blend of carbs and booze to get the day started.

Keep in mind, this is the panda that started it all. This lovely

  8. Live blogging Metro Adventure Today

    April 14, 2012 by Rosalie

Guess what? Today I’m going on a liveblogging adventure with my adventuresome buddy, Emily.

We’ll be taking the gold line in pasadena from East Pasadena to Mission and having a drink at every spot.

I’ll be blogging from my phone, so I’m sure the autocorrects will be hilarious by the end. That, our the posts will be ridiculously short.

    Stay tuned!

  9. Balliceaux

    February 5, 2012 by Rosalie

    - My Richmond favorite—campy décor, delicious foods, mixologist cocktails.
    - Food Rating: 4.5
    - Fun Rating: 5
    - Feel Rating: 5
I absolutely adore this gem. From the inviting, hipster décor to the innovative cocktail menu, the team at Balliceaux had me at hello. The bar has fantastic antlers, hanging from the ceiling and attached to the walls, the booths each have a small porthole beside them, making it feel like some kind of scene from Life Aquatic.

And the food, oh, the food. I love their Sunday Supper. I’ve been twice, and had the whole snapper each time. This delicious fish comes with clams, mussels and an assortment of veggies. It feeds 2-3 for $27 making it a very affordable evening.

Cocktails are phenomenal. From the maple leaf (pictured), shaken with an eggwhite, to the Old Pal, a Bourbon/Absinthe dream, I’ve had a few very fun nights at Balliceaux. The first of many I’m sure, as it’s quickly become my favorite Richmond restaurant.

  10. Mike and Anne’s- South Pasadena

    November 26, 2011 by Rosalie

    A Rosalie Does Pasadena Post!

Work sent me to California for a few weeks, so I’ll be reviewing some of my favorites in this neck of the woods!

    - Adorable garden and delicious brunch with an innovative menu, particularly the pancakes

    - Food Rating: 4.5

    - Fun Rating: 4.5

    - Feel Rating: 4.5

If one town does brunch right, it’s Pasadena. From Old Town to South Pasadena, there are simply some remarkable options. Mike and Anne’s is one of them. I went to brunch with my mom and we enjoyed the sparkling morning outside in the restaurant’s garden. After perusing the tasty looking menu, mt mom settled on Anne’s breakfast- two eggs, two pancakes and applewood smoked bacon. She chose the lemon ricotta pancakes, which were phenomenal. Served with blueberry compote, they taste like a light and fluffly version of lemon poppyseed muffins. They were delicious.

I ordered the red flannel hash, which is red and sweet potatoes, beets, onion and bacon, served with two eggs any style. It was, in a word, phenomenal. I absolutely adore beets, and I love sweet potatoes. The red flannel hash was breakfast heaven.

Also, our waiter was fantastic. When I ordered the hash, he double-checked that I liked beets, because it is very beety. I appreciated that! I mean, what if someone didn’t read carefully enough and then was unpleasantly surprised by the beets. He was polite and
