Work sent me to California for a few weeks, so I’ll be reviewing some of my favorites in this neck of the woods!

If one town does brunch right, it’s Pasadena. From Old Town to South Pasadena, there are simply some remarkable options. Mike and Anne’s is one of them. I went to brunch with my mom and we enjoyed the sparkling morning outside in the restaurant’s garden. After perusing the tasty looking menu, mt mom settled on Anne’s breakfast- two eggs, two pancakes and applewood smoked bacon. She chose the lemon ricotta pancakes, which were phenomenal. Served with blueberry compote, they taste like a light and fluffly version of lemon poppyseed muffins. They were delicious.
I ordered the red flannel hash, which is red and sweet potatoes, beets, onion and bacon, served with two eggs any style. It was, in a word, phenomenal. I absolutely adore beets, and I love sweet potatoes. The red flannel hash was breakfast heaven.
Also, our waiter was fantastic. When I ordered the hash, he double-checked that I liked beets, because it is very beety. I appreciated that! I mean, what if someone didn’t read carefully enough and then was unpleasantly surprised by the beets. He was polite and
